Happy New Year! What is the first bird you saw after waking up on the first day of the New Year?

Share that joy with your friends and neighbors. Hopefully, you knew about the walk at Ollie’s Pond from last month’s Beacon, and were able to participate.

  • Wednesday, January 1, 8 a.m., New Year’s walkabout at Ollie’s Pond, 18235 Avon Ave, Port Charlotte.
  • Thursday, January 16, Monthly Program: Refreshments 6:15 p.m. followed by the program, “The Purple Martin Story,” at 7 p.m., at Regional Realtors Education Center, 3320 Loveland Blvd., Port Charlotte.
  • Saturday, January 18, 8:30 a.m., Purple Martin gourd array demo and walkabout at Cedar Point Environmental Park, 2300 Placida Rd., Englewood.
  • Tuesday, February 11, 8 a.m., walkabout at Deer Prairie Creek Preserve, 10201 S. Tamiami Trail, Northport.
  • Every Saturday, 8:30 a.m., Nature Walk at Audubon Pennington Park, 1153 Alton Rd., Port Charlotte.
