As the Anglers Club season comes to an end, many of the Burnt Store Anglers head back north, leaving about 25% off the membership to enjoy the summer season. The Burnt Store Anglers was founded by a group of 18 anglers who enjoyed fishing and sharing information 25 years ago. Since that time, over 175 men and woman have enjoyed the programs and events sponsored by the Anglers. We are dedicated to providing programs on fishing techniques, boating safety, harbor conservation and promoting catch and release of our fish populations, that are offered monthly.

The Burnt Store Anglers meet on the first Monday of each month, October through May, at the Tiki Hut next to the Cass Cay restaurant. All folks interested in fishing are welcome. The activities include lectures from well-known fishing guides, fishing tackle shops, equipment manufacturers, fish and wildlife officials. The anglers also write a monthly article that is published in the community newspaper, The Beacon.

The Anglers have been the proud sponsor of the Guy Harvey Ultimate Shark Tournament, held at our local marina, the Resident Team Fishing Tournament, the Fish from the Wall Tournament and the Golf and Fish nine-hole fishing tournament.

As the club’s season ends, many small groups of anglers stick around to fish for the great snook and redfish season, as well as the great tarpon fishing. One group of Anglers that fish monthly with one of our local guides is Dave Roop, Marv Bergman, Chuck Hughes and Jay Lev. Together they represent 12 years of officer leadership to the Anglers. During late April, the team fished with Captain Paul Halasz, of Tight Line Chronicles, aboard his new boat loaded with great comfort, fishing space, and lots of fishing luck. Captain Paul took us to several of his great fishing spots and before the day was over our crew had over 50 snook, redfish, jacks and sea trout. Dave Roop and Jay Lev each managed to capture a Harbor Fishing Slam of a big redfish, large snook and beautiful sea trout. Captain Paul is one of the outstanding fishing guides who spoke to the Anglers this year. The marina has a great list of active fishing guides who take fishing parties out of the marina.

Anglers President, Tom Zalac, announced at the last meeting of the month that the club will host a Fish of the Month Tournament during our season, a complete list of outstanding lectures, a fishing rod building class and the very popular Burnt Store Anglers Holiday raffle with over 50 fishing, art and sporting fishing clothing. Funds raised from this event are contributed to conservation and food kitchen programs in the club’s local area.
